LEARNING ACROSS BORDERS

About

Overview

Learning across Borders (LABS) is an initiative to foster sustainable teaching and research in Africa is the outreach arm of the Centre of Criminology.

The outreach initiatives include:

  1. Nodal Security and Governance Group (NSGG) which meets bi-weekly as a support group for PhD and Masters students.
  2. Digital Courses: A digital course "Trends in the Governance of Security", has been developed. The course seeks to facilitate and improve classroom learning within, in particular, African universities. African and international scholars participated by making available video recorded presentations which are available in a DVD boxed set. The intention of this, and future courses, is to enhance the quality of teaching on security and justice within African tertiary learning institutions.
  3. Physical and Environmental Security Seminars are held regularly and these encourage debate among students, scholars, government officials and members of the public.
  4. Policing e-learning is a digital course developed with Bochum University which is based on an internet platform that contains interdisciplinary video lectures from police research and police science.
  5. Collaborative Associations have been formed with the African Security Partnership and with the Centre of Criminology at Bochum University to facilitate our outreach work.
